Discover Fibre Cement 2.4m Multipurpose Backer Boards

Whether you are looking to board walls or floors (pre-tiling), Fibre Cement Boards can make this job much easier. 2.4m lengths Boards can be used on ceilings, around fires, internally and externally.

Due to being a fire-rated material, these Boards are suitable to be installed next to fireplaces. These exterior-grade Backer Boards also have a high resistance to water, making them the preferred material for construction purposes.

Fibre Cement Boards are excellent, long-lasting alternatives to plaster boards or ply materials. Boards produce a level, stable area, covering porous surfaces and existing uneven surfaces.

Fibre Cement Benefits include:

Ideal for wet or damp areas
A1 fire-rated
Exterior grade
Higher load-bearing properties than plasterboard
Underfloor heating applications (excellent thermal mass)
Mould and water resistant

Fibre Cement Boards are made using a fibre (cellulose)/cement mix. Boards are manufactured in 6mm Fibre Cement Board thicknesses, up to 18mm, to suit your application. To cut each Board, you can use a scoring knife. Because of the material and dust emission, we do not recommend the use of a dry saw.

Secure Boards to walls or floors with the help of a rapid setting adhesive, screws (countersunk), or backer tape (for tiling). Designed for various applications, construction or DIY jobs, these Fibre Boards give a suitable backboard that is stable.

What are the uses of Fibre Cement backer boards?

Fibre Cement backer boards are a multi-usage product that can be installed onto walls, under tiling, directly onto cement floors or as a replacement for floorboards, as ceiling boards, a fire surround for fireplaces.

How do you cut Fibre Cement backer boards?

When working with Fibre Cement Boards, it is important to wear Safety Gloves when cutting, moving, and handling the boards. *Please note that due to the fibre cement material, it is advised that when cutting Boards, a dust mask is worn. Remove any residue or dust with a dampened cloth to avoid particles from entering the air. 6mm and 9mm Boards: These thinner Boards can be cut to size using a scoring knife or blade and a straight edge. 12mm and 18mm Boards: We recommend cutting the thicker Fibre Cement backer boards on a bench using a circular saw that has been fixed with a vacuum extractor and filter. This will make for a clean, straight line whilst reducing the amount of dust in the surrounding air.

Are Fibre Cement backer boards Fireproof?

Fibre Cement backer boards are manufactured from a combination of cellulose fibres and cement mix, making them a non-combustible A1 fire-resistant material and ideal for use around fireplaces.

Are Fibre Cement backer boards water resistant?

Fibre Cement backer boards have excellent water-resistant properties, meaning that these Boards last much longer than ply or plaster alternatives. Fibre Cement Boards give a suitable, even surface for tiling onto and can be used for covering up damp-prone areas or uneven walls/floors.

Where can Fibre Cement backer boards be installed?

Fibre Cement backer boards are multi-use and can be installed in a variety of different ways, depending on the thickness. Please note, Boards of all sizes and thicknesses require a brick pattern/staggered installation if used for flooring installations so that the four corners don’t all adjoin at a single point.

6mm Boards: commonly used on concrete flooring installations, as the thinner Board will not raise floor levels and provide a squeak-free finish. Fix 6mm Fibre Cement Boards to the floor using a flexible adhesive or polymer-enriched, thin-set mortar and place them directly onto the concrete base below. Leave to set for at least 24 hours, before screwing into place. Apply a coating of thin-set mortar over mesh tape with a smooth putty knife to seal joints between Boards.

9mm & 12mm Boards: recommended for installations on walls, with the thickness depending on the end use. For stud walls, or walls with a high traffic area like a corridor, 12mm Fibre Cement Boards are recommended due to their higher strength and additional soundproofing properties. Using screws and washers at least 20mm from the edge of the Board you can fix 12mm Boards to stud walls. For solid walls, we recommend using 9mm Fibre Cement backer boards. They can be fixed in place using a flexible rapid-set adhesive. Once set, screws and washers can be used to secure the Boards to solid walls mechanically.

18mm Fibre Cement Boards are generally recommended for use on new build floors and underfloor heating systems, as the thicker Boards have improved sound and heat insulation, as well as improved strength. Fibre Cement Boards can be installed directly onto joists as floorboards and when compared with hardwood floorboards or other timber-based materials, 18mm Fibre Cement Boards are more robust with minimum risk of moving.

Please ensure you have pre-booked your collection slot before travelling to site.

When arriving to collect your order, please report to a member of our Warehouse Team who will register your arrival and locate your goods. Once ready, your items will be picked and brought to your vehicle loading area.

During busy periods, there may be a short wait while our yard team assist other customers or complete other loading tasks. We always do our best to work within your booked collection time.

We respectfully draw your attention to the following important points:

  • Loading is ultimately the customer’s responsibility. While our team can assist with mechanical loading using forklifts, we cannot handball items into enclosed vehicles. Customers must ensure their vehicle is suitable and that goods are safely loaded and adequately secured before leaving the premises.
  • Sharp sheeting, metal goods, and long/heavy items may pose additional handling risks. Please come prepared with high-quality protective gloves, and any appropriate protection materials to avoid damage to your vehicle or restraints (e.g. ropes or straps). The edges of roofing sheets and metal products can be extremely sharp, and care should be taken when handling.

Frequently Asked Questions
backer boards have brilliant water-resistant properties, and so they will last much longer than plaster or ply alternatives. These Boards provide an even surface for tiling on and can cover uneven walls/floors or moisture-prone areas.
Before cutting Fibre Cement Boards, it is important to remember to use Safety Gloves when handling, moving and cutting the Boards. *Please note: due to the nature of the materials, it is recommended that a suitable dust mask is worn when cutting the Boards. Wipe away any residue with a damp cloth to avoid dust and particles from becoming airborne.   6mm & 9mm Boards: These slimmer Boards can be cut with a straight edge and a scoring blade/knife. 12mm & 18mm Boards: Cut the thicker 12mm & 18mm Fibre Cement Boards with a circle saw with a built-in extractor and a suitable filter on a sturdy bench. This will provide a straight, clean line and reduces dust entering the surrounding air. *Please note that due to the nature of the materials, it is recommended that a suitable dust mask is worn when cutting the Boards. Wipe away any dusty residue with a damp cloth to avoid particles from becoming airborne.
As a multi-use product, Fibre Cement backer boards can be fitted under tiling, onto walls, as replacement floorboards, fitted directly onto cement floors, as ceiling boards, or as a fire surround for fireplaces.
As a multi-use product, Fibre Cement backer boards can be fitted in various ways, thickness depending. Boards of all thicknesses and sizes need to be fitted with a staggered/brick pattern during installation if being used for flooring, to ensure corners do not all meet at any single point.   6mm backer boards are regularly installed for concrete flooring projects because the thinner nature of the Board won’t lift floor levels, whilst producing a creak-free finish. 6mm Boards can be fixed to flooring with a thin-set, polymer-enriched mortar or flexible adhesive applied directly onto the below concrete, then place Boards on top. Allow a set time for a minimum 24hrs, before fastening into place with screws. To seal joints between Boards, add a layer of thin-set mortar over mesh tape with a putty knife.   9mm and 12mm Boards are generally designed for use on walls, with the Board’s thickness varying according to the project needs. -For walls in a busy area such as a corridor, or for stud walls, 12mm Boards are suggested because of their high-strength and extra soundproofing qualities. Fix 12mm Boards to stud walls using washers and screws with a minimum 20mm gap from the Board’s edges. -We recommend 9mm backer boards are used for solid walls which can be secured using a quick set, flexible tile adhesive. Once fully set, washers and screws can mechanically fit the Fibre Cement Boards to walls.   18mm Boards are recommended for installation on floors with underfloor heating systems and new build floors, due to improved strength, heat and sound insulation from the thicker Board. Fibre Cement backer boards can be directly fitted onto joists to replace floorboards. Compared to plywood floorboards or other wood-based building materials, 18mm backer boards have minimal risk of movement and are generally more robust.

Fantastic Product for Tiling and Fireplace Projects!

I recently purchased the Cladco 2.4m Fibre Cement Backer Board for a bathroom renovation, and I’m extremely impressed. These boards are a game-changer! They provided a stable, even surface, perfect for tiling over uneven floors and walls. The installation was straightforward, and I loved how lightweight yet sturdy they were, making the job much easier than I anticipated. One of the biggest perks is that they’re water-resistant, which gives me peace of mind knowing they will last much longer in damp-prone areas than traditional ply or plasterboard. I also used them around a fireplace, and their fire-rated certification made them an excellent choice for safety. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a strong, durable, and versatile backer board for DIY projects! Worth every penny.
