Roof fixings - screws and screw caps
Using the correct screws is essential for keeping your roof secure and ensuring it can withstand wind loads and long‑term exposure to the elements. Choosing high‑quality fixings and the right type for your application helps ensure a reliable connection between your roof sheets and the supporting structure. Self‑drilling TEK cladding screws with a 5/16″ hex head and a bonded stainless steel and neoprene washer are commonly used to fix sheets to timber or metal purlins through the lower section of the sheet profile. For installations involving insulation or composite panels, longer screws up to 175mm are available to ensure a secure fixing through thicker build‑ups.
For corrugated roofing, 65mm TEK screws with BAZ washers are typically used to fix through the crown of the corrugation into timber purlins.
Self‑tapping or ‘stitching’ TEK screws are used for fixing sheets together at side laps, or for securing trims to metal sheeting.
To finish things off, colour‑matched screw caps can be fitted over screw heads, providing a neat, professional appearance. These caps are available in a wide range of colours to match your chosen roofing sheets.
