FAQs
No, you generally don’t need to pre‑drill when using Cladco roofing screws. Our range includes self‑drilling TEK screws designed to drill their own hole as they fix into wood, light steel, or heavy steel. Stitcher screws can also be used for lapped areas and for securing flashings such as ridges or barges.
If you’re unsure which fixings are the correct choice for your project, please get in touch on 01837 659901 or at [email protected].
It depends on which roofing sheet you are installing. The screws you choose will need to penetrate the frame beneath as well as the roofing sheet itself. We have a large range of screw lengths available to accommodate any roofing installation.
It’s important not to overtighten screws, as this will put pressure on the washers, which could potentially break them. Make sure the screws are flush to the roofing surface, and make sure that once screwed, they are tight enough to hold the structure. For more fixing instructions, please refer to the relevant installation guide.
Most Cladco roofing screws use an 8mm hex head, so we recommend the TEK socket driver tool (5/16"). For fixings with an 11mm bi-hex head, you’ll need the bi-hex 11mm socket driver tool.
If you’re unsure which you need, check the screw head size listed on the product page (or measure across the flats of the hex head). Alternatively, you can give us a call.

I had used the other 22mm screws on a previous project and had to buy the caps. Not having put caps on myself was so much easier.
