What is standing seam roofing?
Standing seam metal roofing is a type of sheeting that offers a hidden fixing system and interlocking seams for a sleek finish. Standing seam panels can be installed as roofing and cladding on domestic or commercial buildings and are often seen in architectural projects due to their unique design.

What is corrugated metal roofing?
Corrugated metal roofing is a sheet used for domestic, industrial and agricultural buildings. These sheets can be used for both roofing and cladding purposes, as the corrugated metal design creates a traditional appearance on buildings.
Box profile roofing sheets can also be used on the same types of projects as corrugated panels, but offer a different aesthetic. These Sheets come in 32/1000 and 34/1000 profiles.

Both standing seam roof sheets and corrugated metal roof sheets are rolled in our warehouse using a roll-forming machine, which creates the profiles and raised seams. The sheets are roll-formed on different machines according to their profiles.
Pros and cons
Price
Standing Seam
Standing seam roof sheets are made of a premium material and have a high-quality finish. This means they cost a bit more than corrugated metal panels but are built to last up to 40 years. The price of the minimum length of Cladco standing seam metal roof panels, which measure 1.2m x 0.5m, is £20.70. You will need to consider installation costs if you are not installing the sheets yourself.
Corrugated and Box Profile
Corrugated metal roofing sheets vary in price depending on their thickness, with a choice of 0.5mm and 0.7mm corrugated panels available. Cladco corrugated metal roofing panels and box profile metal panels are manufactured to a minimum length of 1m, and are 1m or 990mm in width, respectively. This size of sheet costs £12.30; however, it is important to bear in mind the labour costs of your corrugated metal roof's installation.

Aesthetics
Standing Seam
The aesthetics of standing seam metal panels are one of the main reasons people choose to install them. Standing seam panels are often seen in architectural projects and used for roofing and cladding for sleek lines and a modern appearance.
The flat metal panels are installed with hidden fixings, so they have no exposed fasteners, which keeps the finish clean and contemporary. Standing seam metal roofs can be installed on a variety of buildings, such as commercial and residential buildings, and sheet lengths can be made up to 7m.
Our standing seam roofs are available in four colours: Nordic night black, slate grey, tile red and silver fir green.
Cladco offers a range of flashings to install alongside standing seam metal roofs, to ensure a professionally finished structure.
If your aesthetic preference is a modern design, standing seam roofs will be the perfect match.

Corruguated and Box Profile
Corrugated metal roofing and box profile sheets are types of roofing material that provide a more traditional appearance to your roofing project. Corrugated metal panels are commonly used on agricultural buildings, such as stables and barns, to match other building designs.
Both box profiles and corrugated metal sheets can be used for roofing or wall cladding. Many customers choose to use Cladco’s black PVC plastisol sheets across the entire structure, roof and walls, to achieve a striking, contemporary barn-style finish.
Available in a range of coatings, corrugated metal roofing and box profile metal roofing sheets come in a total of 12 colours, plus plain galvanised, so you have plenty of choice.
Life expectancy
Standing Seam
Standing seam metal roof sheets are made from SSAB Nordic quality steel and feature a GreenCoat® Pural BT coating, enhancing their life span to last up to 40 years in normal environments. Standing seam metal roofs are a long-lasting material for roofing and cladding that can withstand harsh weather conditions, such as heavy rain, and are highly resistant to damage, weathering and scratching.
Corrugated and Box Profile
Box profile and corrugated metal roofs are available in a variety of coatings, which affect the predicted life expectancy. Our PVC plastisol coating is the most durable, offering a life span of up to 30 years, and our polyester paint coating should last in excess of 20 years. This is available in both corrugated metal roof sheets and box profile metal roof sheets.

Roof pitch
Standing Seam
The minimum roof slope pitch for a standing seam roof is 6°, which means it can be used for a low-pitch roof project.
Corrugated and Box Profile
Corrugated metal roofing sheets have a minimum pitch of 10°, which is slightly higher than the standing seam sheet. 32/1000 and 34/1000 box profile metal roof sheets have a minimum roof pitch of 4°, which is slightly less than a standing seam roof, making them perfect for a low slope roof.
Ease of installation
Standing Seam
Installation of standing seam metal roofs involves interlocking the raised seams of each metal panel, which is a simple and effective process. With the combination of concealed fasteners and a range of matching flashings, the installation of standing seam roofs leaves a sleek finish to your building project.
Corrugated and Box Profile
Corrugated metal roofs and box profile metal roof sheets are installed using a simple overlapping method, fixed with roofing screws. The corrugated metal sheets will have exposed fasteners, unlike standing seam; however, Cladco colour caps are available to match and blend in with the colour of your corrugated panels.

Maintenance required
Standing Seam
As a roofing option, standing seam sheets are a low-maintenance metal roofing and cladding material due to their durable GreenCoat® coating. We recommend that an annual inspection of standing seam roofs be carried out, and debris be cleared at the same time to keep them properly maintained.
This will reduce any build-up of dirt and keep standing seam roofs in great condition, resulting in less maintenance in the future. The flat panels mean debris from severe weather, such as high winds, is less likely to get stuck.
Corrugated and Box Profile
The maintenance requirements of corrugated roofs depend on which coating you decide on. Our PVC plastisol coating will typically need its first maintenance, or repaint, within 15-25 years of installation, and our polyester paint coating will require maintenance within 8-12 years of installation. It is important to keep maintenance requirements in mind when choosing your metal roofing materials.
Any roof debris, such as leaves and branches, should be removed from corrugated metal roofs to avoid build-up, resulting in more maintenance and keeping your corrugated metal roofing project in top condition over the years.
Sustainability
Standing Seam
Cladco standing seam roof sheets are a highly sustainable choice of material, manufactured from SSAB Nordic quality steel and coated in GreenCoat® Pural BT.
The GreenCoat® coating on standing seam roofs is made with energy efficiency in mind, a patented bio-based coating produced using Swedish rapeseed oil, to reduce fossil fuel usage and have less negative impact on the environment. This coating gives the roof's surface a matt appearance.
SSAB Nordic quality steel is made to last, meaning you will not need to replace your standing seam metal roofing for many years to come. Not only is this kinder to our environment, but it is also cost-effective for your roof project. Standing seam roofs are compatible with roof solar panels to improve energy efficiency in your home.

Corrugated and Box Profile
Box profile and corrugated metal roof sheets are made from high-quality galvanised steel that is made to resist water penetration and endure sun, heavy rain and snow.
Choosing a long-lasting roofing option like corrugated metal roofs means you can rely on it to last many years without replacement if installed correctly, which is important if you are considering the sustainability of your roof project.

Conclusion
When you compare standing seam vs corrugated metal roof sheets, the final choice comes down to a range of factors, which we have discussed above. Your own roof project requirements are important to consider when comparing the two metal roofing sheets.
If the cost of your roof project is a top priority, it would be reasonable to consider box profile or corrugated metal roofing sheets as these have a low cost compared to standing seam metal roofs. A professional roofing contractor is advised for any type of roof installation.
When considering the aesthetics of your build, if you have been won over by the sleek design of the standing seam metal roofing panel and have more room in your budget, it would be a perfect choice.
Box profile and corrugated metal roof sheets offer a traditional appearance of roofing material, so if you are looking for a roof material to use on a barn conversion, cabin or shed roof, this could be the best choice for you.
The sustainability of your new metal roofing or cladding may be the most important factor to you, if so, standing seam metal roofs have an environmentally friendly GreenCoat® Pural BT finish and are made to last.
For many customers, the decision of which metal roofing sheet to choose comes down to a combination of all factors, and which will benefit their project the most. The key differences between each roof type, standing seam vs corrugated metal roofs, include price, installation and aesthetics.
