Cladco aluminium handrail balustrade

Looking to improve safety around the perimeter of your raised or bordered outdoor decking area, while also creating a stylish decorative feature that blends seamlessly with your Cladco decking installation? Our handrail balustrades are manufactured from high-quality, powder-coated aluminium and are available in a range of sizes to suit your decking project.

Fully compatible with Signature solid composite decking, Nordeck® decking or timber decking, these top rails offer superior strength and long-term durability, and are a robust, low-maintenance alternative to traditional balustrade systems.

Suitable for both domestic and commercial installations, all handrail balustrades measure 1100mm in height, but are available in a variety of widths, ranging from 900mm up to 2600mm.

Manufactured from extruded and welded aluminium, each handrail features a non-corrosive powder-coated surface available in two finishes: black and white. While the black finish adds a striking appearance that will contrast stylishly with your decking boards, the white finish is a popular choice for those wanting a neutral toned balustrade that will complement lighter coloured decking boards.

Powder-coated aluminium balustrades can be repainted to refresh their appearance, match a new design scheme, or repair minor scratches and chips. For the best results, clean and lightly sand the affected area, remove any dust or contaminants, apply a suitable primer, and then use a solvent-based spray paint in thin, even coats. Small areas of cosmetic damage can also be touched up using the same process.

For detailed preparation, recommended products, and step-by-step guidance, please refer to our balustrade installation guide.

Customer Collection Notice

Please ensure you have pre-booked your collection slot before travelling to site.

When arriving to collect your order, please report to a member of our Warehouse Team who will register your arrival and locate your goods. Once ready, your items will be picked and brought to your vehicle loading area.

During busy periods, there may be a short wait while our yard team assist other customers or complete other loading tasks. We always do our best to work within your booked collection time.

We respectfully draw your attention to the following important points:

  • Loading is ultimately the customer’s responsibility. While our team can assist with mechanical loading using forklifts, we cannot handball items into enclosed vehicles. Customers must ensure their vehicle is suitable and that goods are safely loaded and adequately secured before leaving the premises.
  • Sharp sheeting, metal goods, and long/heavy items may pose additional handling risks. Please come prepared with high-quality protective gloves, and any appropriate protection materials to avoid damage to your vehicle or restraints (e.g. ropes or straps). The edges of roofing sheets and metal products can be extremely sharp, and care should be taken when handling.
  • We strongly recommend that customers bring their own straps, ropes, or other securing materials, as we are unable to provide these at the point of collection.
  • If you are unsure of your vehicle’s load capacity, we can advise the approximate weight of your order in advance. It is your responsibility to ensure your vehicle is suitable for transporting the goods safely and legally.
  • Cladco will not be held liable for any damage to your vehicle or goods once they have been loaded and leave our premises. Loading assistance is provided entirely at the customer’s own risk.

Click & Collect – Pre-Booking Required

You are welcome to collect your order from either our Okehampton (Devon) or Andover (Hampshire) site. All collections must be pre-booked in advance so your items can be picked, packed and ready for you.

Please do not travel to site without a confirmed collection time, as we cannot guarantee your order will be available.

Once your items are ready, you will receive an email with a link to book your collection slot. Please note, same-day collections are not available and bookings must be made at least two hours in advance.

When you arrive, please bring your order confirmation and follow the signage to the collection area where a member of our team will assist you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Each handrail is supplied as a complete section and includes side-fitting brackets and foot caps for a clean, professional finish. This helps save time and hassle during installation. Please note that balustrade posts, balustrade gates, and screws are not included, and you’ll need to purchase these separately if you’re building a full system.

All of our handrail balustrades are designed to a consistent height of 1100mm. We offer a range of widths from 900mm up to 2600mm. If you need to span longer runs, it’s easy to connect multiple handrail sections together to achieve your desired balustrade length.

Each handrail is manufactured from extruded and welded aluminium. The welded construction adds durability to ensure long-term performance as a robust, low-maintenance alternative to traditional balustrade systems.

You can choose between black and white powder-coated finishes. Black gives a bold, striking look to your decking installation. Our white finish is a neutral, timeless option that pairs beautifully with lighter-coloured boards and suits both domestic and commercial settings.

These handrails are fully compatible with Cladco Signature solid composite decking, Nordeck decking, and timber decking. They’re designed to blend seamlessly and provide a stable perimeter, whether you’re upgrading a garden deck or building out a larger commercial outdoor area.

Repainting powder-coated aluminium can help refresh the appearance or match your balustrade to a new design scheme. Follow the steps below to ensure the best results:

  1. Clean the Substrate

Remove any grease or dirt which could inhibit the subsequent coating from attaching. Ensure all dirt particles are removed. This can be done either by hand with a sponge and soap, or if the surface has a lot of dirt, pressure washing with an alkaline-based degreasing detergent can be used. Ensure all washing products are thoroughly rinsed off leave the Balustrade to dry.

  2. Remove Corrosion

If the Balustrade is older, the powder coating on the material may have started to corrode, leaving a small number of corrosion deposits. Ensure your powder coating does not show signs of breaking down, otherwise the coating will need to be stripped off. A chalky, white residue over the powder coating is a form of rust and must be removed. A nylon scouring pad will work or a power sander will remove any red or white residue and corrosion, leaving a plain metal surface. Once all rust and corrosive coating has been removed, ensure any dust is cleared thoroughly.

  3. Abrade the Metal Surface

One of the most difficult obstacles in painting over the powder coating is ensuring the new coating bonds to the aluminium. Sanding the substrate removes the gloss from the original powder coating so that the fresh coating will stick. If parts of the powder coating remain it is important to feather the edges, so that there aren’t any bumps or ridges on the surface. Once this is done, ensure any dust or residue is removed.

  4. Mask Off Adjacent Surfaces

Some areas may need to be protected from the primer or paint. Areas can be covered with decorators’ tape, masking paper or sheeting, preventing the surfaces becoming resprayed or over-sprayed.

  5. Prime the Substrate

As soon as the metalwork is cleaned, removed of any rust and thoroughly dried, the areas can be primed and left to cure. It is best to do this as soon as possible, so the exposed areas do not get dirty or oxidised. Certain primers are appropriate for different alloys, so ensure the correct primer is used for the different alloys and aluminium. To check if you’re using the correct primer, apply to a small area if the primer smears or can be wiped off

  6. Spray Apply the Top Coat

There are many top coats available on the market, ensure you purchase the top coat designed for the material you wish to paint. A top coat can be selected in a choice of colours and gloss levels appropriate for painting over powder-coated aluminium, but it is crucial to select the right one. The top layer needs to be chosen to adhere to the primer or directly on to the aluminium if a primer hasn’t been used. Again, a professional spray-painting company will ensure the most appropriate product is used.

I have advised a number of my customers to use this balustrade system over the years, and I'm yet to have a complaint. They look the part, and thanks to coming in lots of different lengths, they can be used on any project, regardless of size and shape. Will continue to recommend. Cheers.

A great design, easy to install and adds some much needed safety around the edge of our garden decking. Considering we have a small dog and a 5 year old in our house, these rails have been crucial. Very happy.

Me and my husband are delighted with our new decking. We chose nordeck boards from Cladco. As our garden has quite a big slope, there is a decent drop at one end of our decking. We ordered balustrades to provide added safety around the edge, and it looks fabulous!

I bought the handrails with posts and a gate and overall very easy to install on our solid grey decking boards. The aluminium rails are very light which makes them a lot easier to move around. Would definitely recommend to friends/family.

Very glad we chose these balustrade handrails, they're really sturdy and they look fantastic. Most of all the kids can play outside (we have a raised decking area) and I don’t need to worry about them falling off!
