Located in a small rural village in northern Cornwall stands this stunning, modern-style new build. Surrounded by charming thatched cottages and just a short walk from the village's historic parish church, the property embraces the best of contemporary architecture and 21st-century engineering, creating a home that is both striking and refined.

While the modern home already makes a strong impression, the homeowners were keen to maximise their outdoor space. To achieve the look they envisioned, the homeowners chose Millboard® Enhanced Grain decking boards. Manufactured in the U.K. using moulds taken from real oak timbers, Millboard® Enhanced Grain is a composite decking board comprising a wood-free, polymer resin core. Designed to reproduce the touch and feel of natural wood, these decking boards provide a tough, long-lasting solution that is weather-resistant, low-maintenance, and a true alternative to timber, pairing effortlessly with the property’s contemporary design.

By creating a new decking area with Millboard® Enhanced Grain decking boards in limed oak, installed by Devon-based carpentry and construction specialists, Dale Chadwick Carpentry & Construction, the homeowners introduced an enchanting feature that not only ties in with the property's overall contemporary style but also provides valuable extra living space.

Within the Enhanced Grain collection’s broad palette of wood-inspired tones — from dark burnt cedar to warm golden oak — the homeowners selected Millboard®’s crisp limed oak finish. This subtle, neutral shade introduces a clean, modern aesthetic that both complements and contrasts with the home’s architectural details and surrounding landscape.
Take the minimalist, off-white rendered walls extending from the spacious kitchen. When set against the pale, sun-bleached tones of the limed oak decking boards, they create a striking contrast with the darker hues found in the upper floor’s vertical cladding and the ground level’s feature wall, finished in stacked stone veneer, laid in a dry-stacked style.

It’s not only the architecture that enhances the effect. Looking out from the deck across the garden, a row of mature trees provides a glorious natural backdrop. Their textured grey bark echoes the lighter tones of the decking, creating a harmonious and balanced outdoor space that feels harmonious and balanced from every perspective.

Even as evening draws in, the decking continues to showcase its undeniable charm. Dale Chadwick Carpentry & Construction integrated LED perimeter lights beneath each step's Millboard® bullnose decking board, casting a soft, warm glow across the space. The result is a feature that not only enhances safety but also creates an inviting ambience, extending the use of the outdoor area well into the night.
