Tucked into the peaceful North Somerset countryside, with sweeping vistas across the rugged Mendip Hills, Mendip Spring Golf Club features 27 holes set across a beautifully maintained complex and is home to more than 1,000 members.. Its 18‑hole Championship course, The Brinsea, sits alongside the welcoming 9‑hole The Lakeside, giving golfers of all abilities plenty of variety.

And it’s here, surrounded by the fairways and stunning scenery, that the driving range has been given a fresh, modern finish thanks to our durable 32/1000 box profile metal roof sheets.

General Manager of Mendip Spring — and PGA Fellow Professional — Scott Thompson explained that the club needed a strong, reliable roofing solution for their new driving range facility. With the introduction of a new Trackman system set to transform the practice experience for visitors, they are preparing for “an increase in foot flow of four times,” making durability and performance essential.

The roofing solution selected for the project was our PVC plastisol coated 32/1000 box profile sheets, a robust and reliable choice for a high‑traffic, year‑round practice facility. Each sheet features six strong profiles spaced 200mm apart, providing the structural rigidity needed to stand up to exposed, open environments like a driving range.

To further enhance protection, the sheets are finished in a leather‑grain textured PVC plastisol coating, offering excellent resistance against scratches, everyday wear and the inevitable knocks that come with a busy training area. It’s a finish designed for long‑term performance, giving Mendip Spring confidence that their new 20-bay facility will stay looking smart for years to come.

The juniper green finish, one of several options available with our box profile metal roof sheets, was chosen to create a roof that suits its surroundings. Its dark green tone blends stylishly with the surrounding fairways, tree line and wider landscape, helping the new structure sit comfortably within its countryside setting.

This structure also uses moulded head screws for light steel and stitcher screws, both supplied with colour‑matched juniper green heads to help conceal the fixings and create a neat, seamless finish across the installation. These discreet fixings not only secure the sheets firmly in place but also help maintain the clean, uninterrupted appearance of the new driving range.

The low‑sloping roof design of the unit is supported by a framework of Cladco Z-purlins, chosen for their strength and suitability for shallow pitches. Manufactured from Z39 galvanised steel, the purlins offer excellent resistance to corrosion and long‑term degradation, an essential benefit for a structure exposed to the elements throughout the year.

When asked why Mendip Spring chose Cladco for the project, Scott explained that he had “heard great things” and was looking for a brand known for being “efficient, quality, professional.” Reflecting on the installation itself, he added that the build “went smoothly,” and that as the finishing touches are completed, “it is looking really good and professional.” 

Alongside its two well‑kept courses, Mendip Spring also offers an impressive range of practice facilities for golfers looking to fine-tune their game. Members and visitors can make use of the dedicated chipping and putting areas, access the spacious driving range, or benefit from tuition with one of the club’s six PGA Professionals. Two state‑of‑the‑art coaching studios, complete with a Foresight Quad Simulator and Trackman Launch Monitor, provide advanced swing analysis, while a fully stocked Professional Shop and buggy hire service ensure golfers have everything they need for a great day on the course.
